Poker and Gaming
If poker is what you seek - if a Mac is the computer you have -Full Tilt poker rooms should give you the gaming action you want.
You get what you want, and fund charity at the same time.
Poker is my choice for online gaming. If your choice is casino action or bingo, there are some great rooms below with huge first deposit bonuses. I like poker since all you have to do is beat the other guys, and a small drop each hand called the rake. The online rake is generally smaller than a real B&M (brick and mortar) casino, and is beatable. The poker rooms have many weak players that throw away their money and leave. If you are planning on staying, read some books on poker, and start small. If you are a mathlete, try the Skalansky Theory of Poker book below, although it is good for any serious player. In the poker rooms the first deposit and add on bonuses just about cover the rake, sometimes a bit more. To discover some of the parallels between poker and finance, or gaming and investing, check out Online Poker For The Apple Mac.
Enjoy.
Full Tilt is new, responsive, good quality, with top people and a great bonus. Full Tilt is also the first poker site to offer fully functional online compatibility. Plan on taking quite a while to play at Full Tilt if you go for all of that huge bonus. While their bonus payout formula to bonus play off is slow, 100% gain is a great leveler. Of course there are plenty of beginners at Full Tilt Poker. The best players will be at the most expensive tables. If you are new, start small and take your time.
Wait for really good starting hands and play them strong.

Lots of different games. and a great bonus. I would rather play poker than play against the house. But if Vegas style action is what you enjoy, this is a way to play and benefit charity. |
Lots of action, and a chance to sit at a table with a WSOP champion. ![]() Play Online Poker That is a bonus! The bonus money will be sitting there, waiting for you to play enough hands and tourneys to earn it.

Reload bonuses
Not only do these sites offer a sign up bonus, but they will offer occasional bonuses if you add money to your account. FullTilt Poker has had a 50% re-load offered. Be a bonus hound and load in money to receive that extra cash. Let the money sit while you work off the bonus, then draw some out if you wish. Add again with the next bonus offer. All of these sites should be reasonably quick and easy to get your money out. Don't play with rent or grocery money. Scared money is easily lost as selective aggression is important in poker. Any delay at cash out will seem huge if the money is needed elsewhere. Be sure to check the site's rules on payouts and withdrawals. It is recommended that you remove some cash after your bonus is earned to test their payout system. This is good for your piece of mind.

Just a quick note on something you will hear from both day traders and poker players.
The first loss is the best loss.
As an investor your long term profitability is determined by your willingness to take many small losses, and letting your profits run. As a poker player your long term profitability is equally effected by your willingness to throw away marginal hands and small bets until you acquire a strong hand, then pushing it hard.
A speculator or a poker player that can't let go when things turn bad is going to lose over the long term. The worst thing for a new gamer or financial player is to win early by luck.
The cost of lessons just went up. If you discover a false precept and it works once or twice, you may have a hard time unlearning it. It's not what we don't know that hurts us the most; It's what we think we know, and we are wrong, that lays the trap.
Learn to take the small loss often, in poker or finance. Make the almost sure thing a big bet. If the reason you got in changes, better out a small lose than sorry a bigger loss.

Ya ain't alone
Supposedly when Pierre Salanger came into President Kennedy's office, Kennedy asked "Is it good news or bad news?" Salanger replied " there is no good news, but there is bad news that isn't our fault; the Aswan dam is leaking." If you are fighting yourself at the poker tables, here is some bad news for others that isn't your fault. From the Econo Log at LLO:
Four Bad Role Models, May 12, 2005 Some Nobel prize-winning economists keep investing foolishly even
though they know better, according to a recent L.A. Times article.
Here are their statements, ordered from bad to worse: The whole article reminds me of a quote I wrongly attributed to Einstein instead of Thomas Szasz: "Clear thinking requires courage rather than intelligence." It's sad that such eminent economists know the smart thing to do but fail to follow through.
See, ya ain't alone. Overall, these guys have not done so well advising others either, but they are willing to take your money to tell you what to do; or to teach a class full of math on how things economic work. The key would seem to be the courage to use knowledge, and maybe realize we don't know as much as we think we do. Now, what we need at the poker table seems to be the courage to .....

If for some reason you are still using AOL, it's time to kick the habit. AOL wants to own you for life, so it may be hard to escape. Once AOL owns you they feel free to neglect you, and expend their efforts getting new subscribers. Years ago I had to cancel a credit card just to stop them charging after I quit; and I quit and re-quit a dozen ways. Start to quit now. If you are playing multi-table poker get DSL or a cable modem. If normal speed is fine the link below has a cheaper version on the first screen; for an acceptable speed upgrade try:
They are equivalent to other top ISPs in performance and better than the other good ones in price. Of course the best recommendation for them is:
They are not AOL!
If you feel that life has you trapped like an AOL contract, read this article for a plan to escape.
